Sophia Kast and Monica Richardson are OMS Scholarship recipients who will present their research at the June OMS General Meeting. Sophia studies the potentially critical role that alpine ectomycorrhizal plants may play in upward treeline expansion through the provisioning of compatible ectomycorhizal fungi. This discussion is relevant to ecological changes which are the result of climate change. Monica studies ectomycorrhizal fungi associated with Pinus species on the Far North Coast of California. These talks will discuss their findings so far and provide background on the importance of ectomycorrhizal symbiosis in Pacific Northwest forests.

This month we are introducing two new features on the OMS website. Both are found under the Calendar menu. ‘Available Field Trips’ is where you can sign up for a mushroom hunt. ‘The Potluck Network’ is a new meet-up for hosts and guests who enjoy cooking and socializing with other OMS members. These new features will be demonstrated at the start of the meeting.
