Aaron Hilliard – Myco-history and the mushrooms we love

March 9 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm PDT

Aaron Hilliard is a mycology educator from Kitsap County Washington and creator of Mushroom Wonderland, a social media site dedicated to all things fungi. Experienced forager and amateur mycologist, Aaron travels with his camera to make fun and informative foraging videos. Everything from peaceful mushroom ID walks to travel vlogs and even comedy, Aaron is dedicated to his mission to teach the world about mushrooms in relatable and fun ways.

This presentation is tailored from a class outline from UW professor Dr. Daniel Stuntz that was saved from the landfill. Aaron will walk us through the earliest mushroom enthusiasts, botanists, and mycologists that brought the science of mycology and taxonomy to where it is today. We will also talk about some of our favorite mushrooms, who described them for the first time, what they looked like back then and what the most recent observations of them are now.  Aaron connects the past and the present with this fun and educational foray into the history of mycology.
