It’s been a long time coming, but we are happy to share with you the brand new Oregon Mycological Society website!
The biggest change of course is the look and feel of the site, but content has been shuffled around a bit. All member only content can be found under one navigation item called Members Only where you can access and update your account details (like change your membership type, update billing info, and change your password). There’s a leadership directory where you can find who’s in charge of various OMS activities and a general membership directory for getting in touch with fellow members. Forums (more on that below) are found here along with resources. In the resources section you can find membership information like trip checklists, information on ordering name tags, external links to other mushroom info on the web an archive of past OMS newsletters and more. If you’re having trouble finding a resource from the old site, check the resource archive page.
A much requested feature, the forums are open to OMS members to discuss everything from mushroom cultivation to getting help with IDs to finding someone to go mushroom hunting with. We’re launching with just a handful of forum topics but more will be added as needed. It might be crickets for awhile, but once people catch on it should get more active.
The events calendar received a major overhaul. In the calendar view you’re now able to hover over an event to get details, click and you’re taken to the event detail page that has a built-in google map and the ability to add the event directly to your google or iCal calendar.
The blog section will collect all the various announcements and member news along with the occasional article. Member submissions are welcome, we’ll provide more information about that later.
The site has been moved to the popular WordPress platform. What this means is that along with the exciting new features there is still plenty of opportunity to add more in the future. The site is also fully responsive, meaning that it will look great not only on your desktop or laptop but tablets and phones as well.
