One-day Field Trips

Field Trip basket of goodiesFor both new and experienced mushroomers, OMS conducts over fifteen field trips per year on weekend mornings in the spring and fall. Field trips are open only to OMS members. A listing of our field trip meeting times, locations, leaders and contact information appears in our Society's newsletter, MushRumors; we also e-mail field trip info to our 'wired' OMS members.

  • On-line Field Trip Listing is here (Members only).
  • Mushroom Hunting Checklist is here.

Members who wish to go on a field trip should first call the trip leader to let them know you plan to attend. This lets the trip leader alert you to any last-minute changes in the field trip plans.

OMS Field Trip gatheringTypically everyone meets at 10 AM (be on time or be fungi-less!), and from there hunters prowl and pick, then meet for lunch. Invariably our discussions over lunch will include our day's finds. Learning the hunting tactics, tricks and mushroom characteristics over sandwiches is both educational and fun. Our field trips have been held all over the region in a variety of habitats, "from the mountains to the valleys to the shore." (photos by John Enger)
